Alter-native Takes

Ken DeRosa's not having the oversimplified rehashing of centrist wonky consensus (and I mean that in the very most positive way) that is Johnathan Alter's latest Newsweek column on education. I don't agree with a lot of what Ken says, but I think his arguments deserve a serious listen. The big problem with the accountability movement is that incentives don't matter a hill of beans if people honestly can't figure out how to get the desired results. The next generation of ed reforms has to be about combining the tough mindedness NCLB was supposed to bring with a lot more capacity-building, support and R&D to help schools and educators actually get there.
